Gary promotes lifelong skating and is continuing training and learning new skills already half a century, therefore all skaters no matter their age or skill level are welcome to contact.
Gary has worked with top level skaters such as Aliona Savchenko and Bruno Massot. But also with recreational and entry level skaters.
Gary keeps on training and competing in ISU adult category therefore has a big interest working with adult skaters.
Gary's coaching philosophy
Good body alignment
Good body alignment is one of the cornerstones for a great skater. Teaching foot- and body alignment on and off the ice is one of Gary's basic training methods, not only to create a good base for jumping technique but also to build strong skating skills and prevent injuries.
Mastery of blade
Gary is famous for his mastery of the blade. He knows everything about deep edges and mastering figures on ice. He loves experimenting with traditional steps and creating unusual moves and encourages also his students to do so.
Figure skating and physics
Getting the rotations in jumps or centering the spins - there are rules of physics behind every element. Gary has a degree in physics and that gives him advantage connecting physics with figure skating in his training method.
Musicality and innovation
One of the most special things in Gary's teaching method is importance of musicality and rhythm, especially expressing musicality by blade movement. This is a valuable skill that helps you to gain more personality and improve your component scores.
Avoiding injuries and staying healthy
Gary promotes healthy lifestyle and is eager to share his experience staying healthy on and off the ice. Preventing injuries by building up strong basic skating skills is fundamental for skaters at every level to enjoy the beautiful sport of figure skating as long as possible.
